The Grumpy Baker

The Grumpy Baker is born out of a lifetime in the New Zealand baking industry. Brent was first introduced to baking as a baby, in his parents Hawkes Bay bakery. Over the next 40+ years he has been involved in baking in many different roles and businesses, always coming back to his passion of making high quality, european inspired products. We are excited to be able to offer you our range of classic european breads and baked products with a New Zealand twist.

We are committed to continuing the craft of baking and training apprentices to ensure these skills are kept alive.

Real Ingredients

Our products are made using high quality ingredients including Belgian chocolate and locally sourced meats.

Real Nutrition

Our European breads are all made using a traditional long fermentation process. Naturally reducing the sugar and gluten content of the finished product.

Owner and the original Grumpy Baker

Brent is a third generation New Zealand baker. In addition to his New Zealand training he has also spent time teaching the Richmond School of Switzerlands advanced baking courses.
